Find out how we treat depression, anxiety,  and OCD with TMS therapy

When medications have not worked to relieve your symptoms of depression, anxiety, or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), then transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) may be the best treatment option for you. TMS treats certain mental health diagnoses are the source and works to stimulate under-active neurons in a certain area of the brain know to regulate mood and the symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, and OCD.

TMS is FDA-approved for the treatment of depression and OCD in adult patients who have responded to conventional forms of treatment, such as medications, psychotherapy, and lifestyle changes. Unlike medications, TMS does not cause any systemic side effects and is a well-tolerated, outpatient, non-invasive treatment that offers long-term relief and remission for approximately 70% of the patients who receive treatment.

Standard TMS therapy is typically covered by insurance. Most insurance plans will require that a patient meet a specific set of criteria before they will cover the treatment. This criteria includes:

  • A diagnosis of severe depression, AND
  • Two to four trials of antidepressant medications, AND
  • At least one trial of psychotherapy (CBT, DBT, group therapy, etc.), AND
  • Most will require at least two augment medication (medications that augment or enhance the effects of an antidepressant). An augment medication might include, but is not limited to, one the following:
  • A second antidepressant, such as Wellbutrin, Trazodone, or Remeron
  • Abilify
  • Lamictal
  • Rexulti
  • Trileptal

Depression is a serious condition.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) restores the neural pathways and neurochemical imbalance that is occurring in the brain with depression.

What's happening when someone is suffering from depression?

During depression, the brain isn’t operating at full strength in the area responsible for emotion. Think of it as the brain’s emotional control center. The emotional control center delivers signals along the neural pathways, to and from the areas of the brain that determine how we act, react and respond to situations, thoughts and feelings. In a depressed brain, they have become less active – or even inactive. In other words, signals that would normally regulate mood and emotions do not work properly in depression. This affects the brain’s ability to naturally decode, evaluate and react to what is happening around it.

FOR OUR VETERANS

Access to Treatment

Through the MISSION Act, Veterans have greater access to health care. Now, Veterans are empowered to receive the care they need, on their own terms. If treatments or care are not available at a VA facility near a Veteran, certified community care partners like NeuroHeal TMS can help.

NeuroHeal TMS accepts referrals from the local VA Medical Center to offer transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment.  In addition to a high effectiveness in treating moderate to severe depression, TMS can also be very effective in improving mood disturbances associated with anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
